Day 31 - Chanute, Kansas

Got up very late today. The forecast said rain and thunderstorms in the morning but sunshine after noon. Hope they're right... My shoes are still soaked, nothing worse than putting on wet shoes!
What I'm gonna do is split up the 160km day I had planed. 60 yesterday, 100 today. Costs me one day but I'm back on the stages I had planed. Which is quite important, considering the 58 mile stretch without any service I'm facing.
Schedule: chanute, cassoday, buhler, larned, alexander.

All long days but definitely doable if the wind isn't to bad. Today it's south-west but not that strong. I'm still much faster than in hill country...

The towns of the plains are amazing, it's like ridding through a wild west movie!

Done with the fourth map. Next one hasn't even got an elevation profile on it! 2500km. About the same distance as last summer, and i'm not even half way done.

BTW: the award for the longest wifi-password goes to Subway Girard, KS. Seriously?!

Update1, 10km east of Walnut, KS: saw lightning in the distance and a massive dark cloud was forming. I'm lucky, found a church that's open for cyclists and spontaneously decided to stop for a while. Full kitchen, WiFi, an office with some expensive equipment and it's just open for everybody without anyone else being present!  The radar shows a storm cell moving east (me going west) with the most intense area exactly where I've seen the lightning. Call me a coward, but I'm gonna wait. Got more than enough time, why should I risk getting wet or worse?
