Day 30 - Kansas!!

The plan was to go 150km today, finally into Kansas.
Had breakfast at Cooky's with the guy from Oregon, around 7:30 we hit the road. "Look at the sky, looks pretty nasty" I said, then he headed east. It didn't even take a mile for my assumption to become true.

Got soaked within 20 seconds and when I saw lightning in the distance I immediately turned around and went back into Golden City. It would have been 50 straight kilometers without any service and I'm surely not the guy that rides into a thunderstorm. Back in Golden City it was still dry but within minutes it got depressingly dark, as if the sun hadn't risen yet. Not much later the rain had mad it to town...

I'm at Cooky's now, drinking coffee and homemade blueberry pie.
Waiting for the storm to pass...

Edit: rain didn't stop for hours. I spent two hours at Cooky's, rode to the town park and got back for lunch. People were amazingly nice, I had to turn down three offers of a ride, one guy showed me the radar on his smartphone and others warned me about the road possibly being flood.

A guy called someone living in the area of the potential flood and I learned that it hadn't been flood half an hour before.

I'm pretty tired, therefore fast forward: rode 60km trough light rain/drizzle to Pittsburgh, Kansas where I called it a day. Could have gone another 25km, wasn't motivated enough though.

National Weather Service has announced new flash flood warnings, heavy rain expected at least to tuesday... But I'm ahead of my schedule, some short days don't risk getting to SF on time. If there's any evidence of lightning I don't get on my bike, even if it takes me a week to get trough Kansas.
